The benefits of using sustainable timber and the opportunities it brings to construction will be presented in four thematic blocks. The advantages of this lightweight material are plentiful: its low weight means more upper floors can be added than in masonry constructions. In addition, broad spans and free-form wood frames encourage designers to be creative. And the latest fire-prevention regulations are opening new doors to buildings such as tower blocks made completely of wood or with hybrid techniques. The event is targeted at architects, timber construction specialists, engineers and designers who are interested in modern, high-performance timber construction. Timber Construction Day is one of a series of conferences organised by Bern University of Applied Sciences – Architecture, Wood and Civil Engineering, LIGNUM – Holzwirtschaft Schweiz, and Cedotec.
