NRP 66 in a nutshell: programme summary and four syntheses reports

NRP 66 closes with the key message: Wood has added-value. A programme summary and four thematic synthesis reports summarise the results.

Publication "Ressourcenpolitik Holz" (Wood Resource Policy)

With "Wood Resource Policy" the government presents an updated programme that will help to increase the demand for Swiss wood. The programme, jointly published by the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN), Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE) and the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs SECO in 2017, aims to provision, process and use Swiss wood sustainably and resource-efficiently. "Wood Resource Policy" contributes significantly to forestry, climate and energy policies. It will be implemented according to the "Aktionsplan Holz" (Timber Action Plan) and its three focus areas: "optimised cascaded use", "climate-adapted construction and renovation" and "communication, knowledge transfer and collaboration".

Publication "Global Wood Pellet Industry and Trade Study"

The study, published by the International Energy Agency (IEA), offers an overview of how the pellet market has developed in over 30 countries. The growing demand has led to a rapid increase in production volume of/by 26 million tonnes in 2015/2016. With a share of 54 per cent, the EU is by far the biggest producer of pellets. Professor Daniela Thrän, engineer and author of the study, emphasises the importance of creating unified framework conditions and a sustainable climate roadmap in each country for the development of a global industrial market for wood pellets.
