At the end of July 2017, the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) published the Swiss forestry statistics for 2016. The first conclusion: declining timber harvests continue in 2016.

The forestry statistics for 2016 dashed any hopes that Swiss timber sales might exceed the figures recorded in previous years. Instead, the harvest dropped to a ten-year low with 4.46 million cubic metres. This is 93,000 cubic metres less than in the previous year. The figures show that the decline was greatest in harvested logs. As concerns wood for wood chips, the growing trend of the previous years continues (0.99 million cubic metres).
