Getting ready to complete NRP 66 "Resource Wood"

On two successive days in autumn 2017, various events will be held to highlight the key question: how to procure and use wood intelligently? In addition, the programme synthesis of NRP 66 will be presented to the public for the first time.

Researchers and members of the Steering Committee are inviting the general public to join them on 7 November 2017 in the afternoon at the Fabrikhalle 12 in Bern for a presentation on the wide array of results and recommendations to emerge from NRP 66. The event on 8 November on the Gurten near Bern will look at the same topics in more detail. Participants will analyse and discuss the results and recommendations both from a Swiss and from an international perspective. The workshops dedicated to the four dialogue fields of NRP 66 are aimed at researchers and leading representatives from the practical field in Switzerland and abroad. The researchers and their dialogue partners are contributing to the four thematic partial syntheses of NRP 66 that are currently being drawn up. As of 2017, the Swiss Wood Innovation Network (S-WIN) will be responsible for maintaining the dialogue platforms, which were set up during the last three years of the programme.

The SNSF has already published results from the individual research projects. It issued two press releases that were in the media spotlight: in summer, Philippe Corvini (FHNW) and Sviatlana Siankevich (EPF Lausanne) announced the development of new procedures that enabled them to use wood as a raw material for chemicals in the production of medicines, plastics and fertilisers. The latest press release features Stefanie Hellweg (ETH Zurich) and her colleagues, who have been able to show: unless we start using more wood, recycling it does not make more sense than burning it.
